NOTE: This review is NOT the D&D 5E Unearthed Arcana Rune Knight Fighter. This is a DMs Guild Subclass from the book Xanathar’s Lost Notes to Everything Else.

Otherwise… let’s continue!

In 2017, the DMs Guild Adepts produced Xanathar’s Guide to Everything Else. Here is a character build using that information on this Fighter subclass created by Rudy Rutenberg.

  1. Activating a rune requires concentration, which lasts a number of rounds equal to your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier (minimum of 3).

So does this mean that if you are hit you have to make a saving throw to continue using your runes or that your rune last only a total number of rounds because of your concentration.

    1. Hey there Lamonte! Thank you very much for leaving a comment on this article. I appreciate it! Sorry, I hadn’t responded yet, but I wanted to think about your question for a while before replying.

Here’s how I would “interpret” the rules for the Runeguard.
      – The Runeguard’s Runes, once activated, remain active for a number of rounds equal to their Proficiency Bonus + CON modifier.
      – Like a spellcaster concentrating on a spell, if the Runeguard takes damage, they would have to roll a CON SAVE to see if they keep their concentration. If failed, the active rune ends prematurely.

Honestly, as a DM… I would probably houserule that we ignore Concentration checks for Runeguard Fighters with active runes… they are going to be in combat and will have a greater risk of being hit as opposed to a spell caster concentrating on their spell. Seems like that would balance it out a bit.

Hope this helps answer your question!
